Sustainability

  • Calumite is produced from blast furnace slag, a by-product of the iron-making process. It’s use in the glass batch reduces the need for quarrying virgin raw materials by partially replacing limestone, dolomite and alumina containing minerals.
  • Calumite also counts towards the recycled content of glass containers, as defined by the British Glass calculation for recycled content.
  • Use of Calumite reduces the energy required to melt the glass batch, reducing energy consumption and associated emissions
  • Use of Calumite reduces the levels of carbonates added to the batch therefore significantly reducing process CO2 emissions.
